security

All departing passengers on entering the Departure Immigration Hall are required to have both their boarding pass and travel documents ready for inspection by airport security personnel.

Enhanced security measures are also in place at the airport. To avoid unnecessary delays, make sure you do not pack any “restricted articles” in your hand baggage or carry it on your person. If in doubt, please review the list of restricted articles.

Dangerous goods, such as flammable liquids, corrosives substances and gas cylinders, are posing a risk to the safety of the aircraft and are not allowed on board, either as checked in or hand baggage. Please refer to the list of dangerous goods for general information, or ask your airline for details.

Security controls on the carriage of liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) in hand baggage by departing passengers are now in force at DIA. In line with the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the security restrictions for carriage of LAGs are.

  • Containers must be placed in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag with a capacity of one litre or less, which must close completely
  • The plastic bag must be presented separately from other hand baggage for inspection at the security point. Only one transparent plastic bag per passenger is permitted
  • Exemptions may be made for medications, baby milk / food and special dietary requirements, subject to verification
  • Any liquid, aerosol or gel such as drinks, creams, perfumes, sprays, gels, paste and any item of a similar consistency must be placed in a container with a capacity no greater than 100 millilitres (or 3.4 oz), (if the container is marked in grams it is assumed that 100g corresponds to 100ml) and all containers should fit comfortably in a transparent resealable plastic bag
  • Containers which have a total capacity greater than 100 millilitres will not be permitted through the screening point, even if they are only partially filled
  • The transparent resealable plastic bag must have a volume no greater than one litre
  • Only one bag per passenger is permitted and the bag will be screened separately from any other passenger baggage at the security screening point

The following items over 100ml are NOT permitted in carry-on baggage

  • Water and other drinks, soups, syrups, jams, stews, sauces and pastes.
  • Foods in sauces or containing a high liquid content
  • Creams, lotions, cosmetics and oils
  • Perfumes
  • Sprays
  • Gels including hair and shower gels
  • Contents of pressurised containers, including shaving foam, other foam and deodorants
  • Pastes including toothpaste
  • Liquid-solid mixtures
  • Mascara
  • Lipsticks
  • Lip gloss or lip balm
  • Any item of similar consistency at room temperature

This is not an exhaustive list and security screening staff and airline representative have the authority to determine what constitutes a liquid, aerosol or gel. If passengers are unsure of whether an item will be rejected for carriage the item should be packed in hold stowed baggage.
